Kumud Mishra is a popular Bollywood and theater actor. He is known for his role as ‘Khatana Bhai’ (canteen waiter) in the film Rockstar (2011).

Kumud was born in Rewachak Ghat, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his education from Rashtriya Military School, Belgaum, Karnataka. Later, he returned to Bhopal to complete his graduation in history and political science.

Kumud was born into a Hindu family. His father served in the Indian Army and was also a theater artist. He had encouraged Kumud to join theater in Bhopal.
Kumud married Ayesha Raza on February 9, 2008. Ayesha is a Bollywood actress who has appeared in Bollywood films including “Dhoom” (2004), “Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety” (2018) and “Bharat” (2019). They had a son, whose name was Kabir or Kabu.

Kumud was encouraged by his father to join theater and become an actor. He joined the ‘Bharat Bhavan Cultural Centre’ in Bhopal. There he acted in several plays and worked with famous theater directors such as Sachin Tiwari, John Martin, Alok Nandan, Bansi Kaul and others. He had the opportunity to work with Prabhat Ganguly’s ‘Little Ballet Theatre’. In 1989, he also participated in the Soviet India Festival.
Later, in 1990, he joined the prestigious ‘National Academy of Drama’ in Delhi, where he obtained a diploma in acting. Famous theater actor and director “Satyadev Dubey” was his mentor. Once, Satyadev called him to Mumbai to audition for The Birth of the Mahatma (1996), directed by Shyam Benegal. Kumud and Rajit Kapoor were chosen as the top two candidates, but ultimately Rajit was chosen.
He has been a part of the renowned ‘Prithvi Theater’ for over 20 years.
In 1995, he appeared in the TV series “Swabhimaan” aired on DD National.
He first came to prominence in the Bollywood film “Sardari Begum” (1996). However, this did not help him get good film projects. Therefore, he continued to perform only in theaters.
In 2007, he was invited to star in the film “1971” starring actors Manoj Bajpaiyee and Ravi Kishan. However, he came into the limelight with the movie Rockstar (2011). He plays the role of ‘Khatana Bhai’ in the movie. His very popular dialogue is –
Shiddat honi chahiye pyar me, dard hona chahiye. Ye koi pyaar vyar nahi hai, dil ka tootna nahi hai, ocha pan hai ye

After that, he appeared in many Bollywood movies such as: Ranjhanaa (2013), Revolver Rani (2014), Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014), Badlapur (2015), Airlift (2016), Sultan (2016), Rustom ( 2016), MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), Rock On 2 (2016), Jolly LLB 2 (2017), Article 15 (2019) and P Se Pyaar F Se Faraar (2019).
“D for DRAMA” is a troupe composed of Kumud and two other members. In 2017, the play “Dhumrapaan” directed by his theater company was selected for the 2017 META Awards (nominated in 5 categories).
In 2017, he participated in the first season of the TVF online drama “Triple”.
He starred in the short film “Laddoo” (2019). The film is directed by Neeraj Pandey and Plan C Studios and produced by Shital Bhatia.
