News about Kunal Trehan
Through his Manchester-based interior design company Touched Interiors, Kunal Trehan has built a global reputation for creating ultra-luxurious interiors for the world’s most discerning buyers. Demand not in the painful sense, but in the sense of having the highest standards.
The very rich have their own ways of working, so managing their expectations requires both talent and an unwavering ability to deliver exactly what is promised, when promised. That’s why Kunal’s participation in the latest episode of the BBC’s interior design show Virtually Home surprised and didn’t surprise those who know him.
I have to admit I was initially hesitant when the BBC first approached me about participating in Virtually Home in early spring 2021. I had to seriously think about it. I have a reputation for working on very high end projects, which require a certain amount of funding.
The BBC have gotten more affordable budgets, but to me design is design no matter how much money is spent, and the point of this show is to inspire people. I think I’m at a point in my career where I have so many tips and tricks and trade secrets that I’ve developed; so I thought it would be nice to share it.
The basic premise of the show is about two people who want to reconcile different design preferences to redecorate a certain room in their house. One of four interior designers meets with fifteen different couples—spouses, partners, parents, and children—to discuss their often diametrically opposed design aspirations.
The designer presents two options, both of which are offered to homeowners using state-of-the-art virtual reality. Instead of wearing the safety glasses we’re more used to, the designs are projected using light technology, giving homeowners the chance to see how the ideas could work in their homes. Without opening the paint can, that’s the closest you can get.
