Lainey Wilson Says Being Seen as a Role Model to Young Fans Holds Her 'Accountable' (Exclusive)

Lainey Wilson opens up about the “pressure” that comes with stardom – and the importance of being a role model for her many young fans.

Speaking to PEOPLE about her latest collaboration with Kendra Scott’s Yellow Rose, the 32-year-old country singer-songwriter said that while she “100%” feels the pressure to live up to a certain standard, “the responsible me will take that pressure.”

“I feel like I can handle that pressure. I feel like at the end of the day, I still fear mom, dad, and the Lord, and I try my best not to do things that would disappoint them,” he says. – The truth is that I am human, so I will disappoint people.

“But I know I have a lot of little people watching me, watching what I wear, watching what I say,” adds Wilson. “It’s important to me to make sure I can hang my head at night and be proud of what I did or said.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Wilson also praised her fifth studio album Whirlwindwhich arrived on Friday, August 23. Describing it as a “bad record,” she tells PEOPLE that the new project will “definitely show another side of me.”

“I think this record will be something I talk about in 50 years,” says Wilson.

Posted on Friday, Whirlwind features previously shared singles including “Country’s Cool Again” and “4x4xU,” as well as an appearance by Miranda Lambert on “Good Horses.” The album consists of 14 songs and, as she revealed after the announcement, “it’s been a long time coming” for the country star.

“This new chapter of music is the most cathartic and personal piece of art I’ve ever made. I hope this record brings some peace to your whirlwind and wraps its arms around you like it did me,” said Wilson, who also won Entertainer of the Year at the ACM Awards.

Now with a new album behind him, Wilson is also celebrating his new collection “Whirlwind” with Kendra Scott. The collection features rings, chain necklaces and earrings, all retailing from $98 to $225 with elegant crescent and star motifs. Wilson and Scott, who founded the brand in 2002, worked together on the collection, and Wilson told PEOPLE that they feel like “soul mates.”

“I was really interested in a collection that bridged both of our personalities into one,” she says. “I feel lucky that I got to do this collection with someone who thinks the same way about creativity, art and style. We had a lot of fun doing it!”
