Lance Mackey’s Death
Lance Mackey revealed he has throat cancer in a Facebook post in August. In the post, he added that the past few months have been difficult for him as he is being treated in the hospital. Mackey was diagnosed with cancer in 2001, but continued to work and run Iditarod in 2002. Lance Mackey’s snowmobile racing career
Lance Mackey made his debut as a male sled dog at Iditarod 2001, finishing 36th. In 2007, he became the first person to win both the Yukon Quest and Iditarod, and in 2008, he won both the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod. won the Tustumena 200. In 2009, he won the Iditarod again and in 2010 he finished second in the Yukon Quest. Despite five attempts, he failed to make it to Iditarod’s top 10. After failing a doping test in May 2020, his 21st place at Iditarod 2020 was overturned.
He is the owner of the Comeback Kennel in Fairbanks, Alaska. Despite keeping 60 dogs, the kennel was penalized for using CBS therapy on animals.
