Shamet averaged 11.4 points and 3.3 assists per game as a redshirt freshman. He was named MVC Freshman of the Year and MVC First Team All-Conference. Shamet had foot surgery after the season to treat a stress fracture. The Philadelphia 76ers selected Shamet with the 26th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Shamet averaged 8.8 points per game in the 2018 preseason, including an 18-point outburst in a 120-114 win against the Dallas Mavericks in China.
Shamet was traded to the Brooklyn Nets on November 19, 2020, in a three-team deal that also sent Luke Kennard to the Clippers.
