The 81-year-old actress, best known for her role as Abby Fairgate in Knots Landing, spoke to People magazine about her time in Hollywood and becoming a mother in her 50s.
In all honesty, Donna Mills revealed that after adopting daughter Chloe, now 27, her life – which was previously focused on her career – changed.
“I was very focused on my career, but at a certain point I realized that something was missing — it was a child. So I went after it. I adopted her when she was four days old. I was 54 at the time and people were saying, ‘You’re going to be so old.’ [to] let the little child run around.’ I never felt it. I never felt older than other mothers who were probably in their 20s.”
Donna Mills urged people to consider having children later in life.
“If you want to contribute to your career, I say it’s better to have a child later in life than early.”
Despite the time that has passed, Mills maintained that she and her daughter are still very close. She and Chloe communicate every day and see each other at least once a week, according to the Secret Storm star.
Donna Mills took a break from work for 18 years to be with her daughter and raise her alone. She admitted that she worked during the early years, but as Chloe grew, things changed.
“But when she started school, I wasn’t going to go out of town for two months at a time. And I didn’t become a mother to give her to a nanny.”
