Could Taylor Swift have a career outside of music?
That’s the question Laura Dern was asked on the latest episode of TheWrap’s Unpacked podcast and couldn’t help but answer, as he previously worked with her on the “Bejeweled” music video.
“She’s the real deal,” Dern, 57, said of Swift, 34, who directed the 2022 project.
“On top of that, it’s amazing what she does and she’s a real filmmaker, which I’ve experienced firsthand,” Dern continued. “I’m excited to watch that part of her journey, regardless of where she continues to take it.”

In the music video, which is a look at the beloved Cinderella story, Dern played Swift’s evil stepmother. Haim, the band that previously opened for Swift on the Eras tour, played her half-sisters.
Dern said she would be open to working with Swift on a separate project.
“Listen, wherever she wants to go, I’ll show up. I love her,” the Jurassic World: Dominion said the star Unpacked.

Following the premiere of the beloved music video, Dern echoed similar sentiments during an appearance in January 2023. Jimmy Kimmel Liveexpressing that working with Swift was an “amazing time”.
“I was in awe of what a great director she was, how prepared she was, how she improvised and how fun she was. I had the best time of my life. So, it was amazing,” Dern said.
Swift has also been vocal about her love for the cameras. In December 2022, it was announced that the Grammy winner had signed on to make her feature directorial debut, produced by Searchlight Pictures.

While there haven’t been any new updates on the project, one thing Dern shared with PEOPLE that fans can be sure of is that Swift is someone who “cares deeply about everything.”

“I think the people who love her know that,” Dern told PEOPLE in January. “They know it in her writing, and they know it in her heart and her activism — but it was amazing to know that as a friend as well.”
