- She reportedly began dealing with mental health issues as a teenager. In an interview, speaking about her mental condition and the reasons behind her decision to come to India from the US, she said:
The competitive scene in So You Think You Can Dance causes stress, and stress hormones can degrade your genes. I started taking prescription medication and making excuses to my best friends not to do things, pushing myself into isolation. If I had stayed there an extra year or two, I don’t think I would be alive today. I originally wanted to play the lead role in So You Think You Can Dance 4, but ultimately lost out to a close friend of mine. I was so depressed I couldn’t even bring myself to wish her well. I realized my ego was getting in the way and it took me five hours to overcome it. As soon as I sent her a congratulatory message, I received an email from the producer of ABCD. I fell into the trap of fame and fortune, and I became greedy. When I came to India, I was mentally unwell. ”
- Lauren stated in an interview that she had the opportunity to play the lead actress alongside Varun Dhawan in the 2015 Hindi film ABCD 2; however, she chose to play the supporting role of American Indian dancer Oliver. she says,
The director told me that I screwed up my choice of roles. Different people told me different stories. I was completely marginalized, excluded from the promotion, and even parts of me were cut from the film. It was the worst six months of my life which included my time as a judge on the celebrity TV dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. ”
