Captain Matimba Maluleke, spokesman for The Hawks Limpopo, said: “The claimant, who is a businessman, claims that he applied for a tender advertised by the (local) municipality (Lepelle Nkumpi) for the purchase of road construction machinery.” the spokesman said. he further added that the whistleblower who was waiting for the official announcement of the winner of the construction tender received a call from a person who claimed to be from the local municipality of Lepelle Nkumpi. The person on the phone for Lepelle Nkumpi asked the businessman who won the tender to meet him at the Lebowakgomo municipal office to discuss the tender he had applied for.
When the complainant went to the municipal office to discuss the offer, he was asked to pay R30,000 as compensation for the offer he received. But the prosecutor informed the members of the Hawks of the Polokwane corruption investigation. After that, a covert operation was launched. It is alleged that the CFO of the local municipality, Lepelle Nkumpi, met the author in her car in Polokwane, near a restaurant. The complainant paid the amount to the municipal secretary.
