The story follows Mark Kane, a single father taking care of his 12-year-old daughter Eleanor, who was turned into a vampire 10 years ago. The pair were repeatedly seen searching for a cure, hiding, and traveling around the country until they reached New York City, where Eleanor met and bonded with Isiah Cole, a 12-year-old.
