Lia Kali Wikipedia, Wiki, Biografia, eDad, Youtube – Lia Kali visited every jam in Barcelona when she was 16 and spoke with rap, jazz, soul, and reggae musicians. She hasn’t stopped singing since then. With other projects, such as the tribute to Amy Winehouse, she made the transition from the jams to other stages, and in doing so, she reaffirmed her passion for the stage as her home.

Because of the pandemic and her frustration with performing other people’s songs, she started writing her own songs and learned how the process involved her own inner recovery.
Lia Kali, one of the most sought-after voices on the scene and a collaborator with Lupita’s Friends, Sofia Gabanna, Santa Salut, Elane, Hard GZ, Denom, Delaossa, and many more, is putting the finishing touches on her much-anticipated debut solo album for 2023.
Let’s learn a little bit about the person and artist behind the record before discussing it. Who is Lia Kali and where is her origin?
Since I write about my life and the things that happen to me, it’s difficult for me to divorce Kali from myself since for me, playing music is a form of therapy. It’s important for me to share it since it gave me the opportunity to listen to other musicians as they shared their experiences and lives. I’ve experienced ups and downs, and creating music feels like a way for me to repay what other musicians have given me. My father is a musician and my mother is a writer, so I come from a family of two crazy artists, so creativity has always been a part of my life. It began as a necessity, but now that I enjoy it, I’m hoping to be able to support myself with it.
When did you know you possessed a unique talent for music?
Doing covers with pals was the beginning, and from there the Amy Winehouse tribute band developed, with which I made my first significant move and learned a lot. And I began to see that I could release my pain and my darkness through music. Knowing that I could release all of that through music and that other people enjoyed what I was doing was a beautiful realization. I then started to think that perhaps there was a way for me there.
What additional inspirations do you have besides neosoul and urban influences in your music, such as reggae and flamenco, and how would you characterize your sound?
Rock, flamenco, and everything else have always been played in my home, and I’ve been soaking it all up. But the music of African American origin—soul, jazz, rap, etc.—is what I really enjoy. I adore all of the black music diva singers of the past few decades. As I listen to them, something ineffable in me gets awoken.
Well, after I met Marcel and started working with him, my sound started to veer a little more towards rap, and I honestly think that was because of Lupita’s Friends and Marcel. Hiphop has always been a part of my life; I had many friends who could rap, and we frequently sang in the street and interacted with other individuals and groups. We began to take it more seriously once I met Marcel, the producer of Sofi Gabanna, Hard GZ, and other artists from Barcelona. Marcel urged me to record. I gained a lot of knowledge through the group Sibil La 3 that we formed. The reality is that they have been incredibly kind and helpful as I have gotten to know more people from the scene since then.
