Liam Payne Toxicology Results Confirm Multiple Drugs in System — and That He Was 'Not Fully Conscious' During Fatal Fall

New details have been revealed about Liam Payne’s death on October 16.

On Thursday, November 7, the press release of the National Criminal and Criminal Prosecutor’s Office no. 14 has revealed that the former One Direction member’s toxicology results are available and have been communicated to his family.

In the 72 hours before his death, Payne – who died in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the age of 31 – had traces of “alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” in his system, according to a press release translated from Spanish.

“This conclusion was reached after complete toxicological tests of urine, blood and vitreous body,” the press release states.

3 people charged in death of Liam Payne, including hotel worker: Prosecutor

On October 21, sources confirmed to ABC News that a partial autopsy revealed that Payne had “multiple substances in his system” at the time of his death. According to an ABC report, one of the substances found was “pink cocaine,” a recreational drug that generally includes a combination of methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA — not necessarily cocaine — according to the National Poison Center.

Sources also said an “improvised aluminum pipe” used to ingest the drugs was found in Payne’s hotel room.

The same press release Thursday said three people had been arrested and charged in Argentina in connection with Payne’s death after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony.

The suspects are charged with abandoning a person that resulted in death, and putting into circulation and facilitating the circulation of narcotic drugs. However, they were not named.

After Payne fell from the balcony to her death, “unauthorized conduct was discovered that resulted in three individuals being charged with crimes,” the statement said.

One of the suspects is “a person who accompanied the artist daily during his stay in the city of Buenos Aires.” The second suspect is a hotel employee accused of supplying Payne with cocaine, and the third is an alleged “drug supplier.”

Prosecutors also said in a statement that “self-harm of any kind and/or physical intervention by third parties have been ruled out” as contributing factors to his death.

The medical examiner concluded that Payne’s death was caused by “multiple trauma” and “internal and external bleeding” as a result of the fall, according to the statement.

In addition to the relevant information collected, prosecutors also concluded that the “Strip That Down” singer “was not fully conscious or was experiencing a state of noticeable reduction or loss of consciousness at the time of the fall.”
