Liam’s father Geoff Payne is currently in the Argentine capital preparing plans to repatriate his son’s body.
It comes as…
Geoff, who lives with Liam’s mum Karen in Wolverhampton, visited Casa Sur Hotel, the hotel where Liam was staying, on Friday.
He thanked the fans who had gathered in front of the hotel for their kind words and watching the tributes left to the star.
The family are now working to bring Liam’s body home after a post-mortem is completed.
There are no direct flights between Buenos Aires and London, but the family is said to want to make as few stops as possible.
A source told the Mirror: “Liam’s loved ones just want him back home, where he belongs with his family.
“They were thinking about the logistics of how best to get his body back to the UK.
“Geoff is determined to see his son home.”
It comes as MTV bosses are set to pay tribute to One Direction singer Liam at next month’s European Music Awards.
The ceremony will take place in Manchester at the newly built Co-Op live Arena on Sunday 10 November.
Liam was in town just a few weeks ago filming new Netflix talent show Building The Band alongside Kelly Rowland, 43, and Nicole Scherzinger, 46.
The show, which was due to be hosted by former Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean, is now hanging in the balance as US bosses decide what to do.
It is learned that Liam’s close friend and former collaborator Rita Ora (33) will be included in MTV’s plans.
The tribute could vary from a live musical homage or a simple video in memoriam montage.
The Sun can reveal that producers want to pay tribute to the late star who dominated the music industry as part of the boy band from 2011 to 2016.
He later used the celebrity-studded music ceremony to launch his solo career.
Liam performed his debut single Strip That Down at the 2017 show.
The single, written by Ed Sheeran, was Liam’s first of 6 UK Top 40s as a solo artist.
One Direction received twelve MTV EMA gongs from their sixteen nominations.
They won three of four in 2012, four of six in 2013 and five of six in 2014.
A source said: “Bosses have agreed they want to host a tribute to Liam at next month’s MTV EMAs.
“In the following days, they will start making official plans.
“Rita has yet to be officially announced, but she’s hosting this year’s awards and will be involved in whatever MTV decides to do.
“She and Liam were close for years and grew up in the industry together. She is obviously devastated by his death.”
Rita and Liam collaborated on the 2018 single For You, which appeared in the film Fifty Shades Freed, part of the final film in the Fifty Shades of Gray trilogy.
The song was nominated for Best Music Video at the 2019 Brit Awards.
Last week, Let You Love Me singer Rita collapsed on stage in Osaka while performing the song during her Japanese tour.
During the song, Rita showed a black and white picture of her and Liam together in the studio.
After looking up at the sky and holding her head in her hands, Rita told fans: “I can’t even sing this right now.”
A source said: “Rita is heartbroken but she didn’t want to let her fans down and carried on with her performances.
“She is being supported by her husband Taika Waititi who is with her in Japan.”
Liam previously said of his relationship with Rita: “Rita is someone I call a real friend and it’s been an absolute pleasure to work with her.”
The last time the EMAs were in the UK in 2017, it was held at Wembley Arena and was attended by Liam and Rita.
Liam performed his debut single Strip That Down while Rita helped host the night and performed a medley of her hits Your Song and Anywhere.
Liam tragically died in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday after falling from a third floor hotel balcony.
He was only 31 years old.
Tributes have since poured in from fans and celebrities around the world – many praising Liam’s kindness and desire to help others.
Yesterday [sun] Liam’s devastated fans held outdoor memorial services for the singer across the country.
Events took place in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.
Despite the rain, hundreds of fans gathered at the Peter Pan statue in London’s Hyde Park – singing his songs and bringing flowers to the singer.
One left open letters to the singer – praising him for following them through their young years.
In one letter, fan Helen, 30, wrote: “I was one of the very lucky people in my teenage years to see you on many occasions.
“You were so kind, polite and friendly, every time. You were so appreciative of your fans. I was thrilled to meet you then as a fan, but also as a person – Liam, you were so wonderful.”
She added: “You died young, but if love could have saved you, by God, you really would have lived forever.”
Fans are also buying and streaming One Direction songs to help Liam dominate the charts on Friday when they are announced.
On Sunday night, the official UK Charts confirmed that three One Direction songs are on track to re-enter the charts.
Their 2014 single Night Changes is currently at No.16, while Story of My Life and What Makes You Beautiful are at No.21 and No.47 respectively.
Three solo songs by Liam are also climbing the charts.
His latest single Teardrops, released in March this year, is currently at No.65, followed by For You featuring Rita Ora at No.67 and Liam’s debut track Strip That Down featuring Quavo at No.75.
