Lily Allen Recalls Getting Diarrhea Mid-Concert and Telling the Audience: 'It Would Just Not Stop'

Lily Allen isn’t shy about realizing an embarrassing bathroom emergency.

In the May 27 episode of her BBC podcast You miss me? alongside co-host Miquita Oliver, the 39-year-old British pop star opened up about the time she desperately needed to use the bathroom while performing a concert and left the stage to do so – before sharing the details with the audience.

“I had diarrhea once while I was on stage. It was a real disaster,” said Allen, who recalled that the show was held in a “pretty big” hall in Canada.

Lily Allen slammed Elton John for ignoring ‘vulnerable’ letter for years before realizing she ‘never sent it’

“I remember somehow I would have managed to hold on, or I wouldn’t have eaten, you know, because I knew my tummy was weird, so I didn’t eat that afternoon,” the “Smile” singer explained. “But I was obviously drinking during the show, so when I had to go out for the encore, I was desperate to go to the toilet.”

Alen then left the stage, “ran to the stairs to the toilet, sat on the toilet, the heavens opened, so to speak,” she added. “I just remember sitting on the toilet thinking, ‘Oh my God. This isn’t going to stop,’ and then all of a sudden I heard [the crowd chant], ‘Lily! Lily! Lily! Lily! Lily!'”

The crowd’s roars were “louder and louder and louder,” said the Grammy-nominated musician, “and this diarrhea [is] just don’t stop. It just wouldn’t stop.”

“They thought it was funny,” joked the “Hard Out Here” performer, who is married to actor David Harbour, and has two children — Ethel Mary, 12, and Marnie Rose, 11 — with ex-husband Sam Cooper.

Earlier this month, Allen performed her hit “Smile” with Olivia Rodrigo on the 21-year-old Grammy winner’s Guts world tour at London’s O2 Arena, nearly two years after they last performed together at Glastonbury 2022.
