Lin Brehmer Is Taking A Leave From A WXRT To Seek Treatment For Prostate Cancer

Lin Brehmer is taking a leave of absence to receive treatment for prostate cancer. The radio star struggled with an illness that worsened over time. Brehmer’s recovery will take some time, given the tragic circumstances. At the announcement he said:

“I will start a long round of chemotherapy on Monday. It is vital for me to take a break from my radio program.”

Brehmer said his leave will begin after the July 15 performance. In addition, he stated:

»Show me the same courtesy you have always shown me. I will miss spending time with you every day, but maybe this will pass and one day soon I will proudly announce on 93XRT, ‘It’s Friday’. It’s great to be alive.’”

Everything about Lin Brehmer

Lin Brehmer, born August 19, 1954, attended Colgate University and began his radio career while switching the university’s radio station WRCU-FM during the summer semester. He earned his degree in 1976. Lin began her radio career in January 1977. He began his career as the “Reverend Rock and Roll” on WQVK-FM. The radio personality spent seven years at the station before moving to Chicago to serve as music director at WXRT in October 1984.

While at WXRT, he was honored with FMQB’s “Music Director of the Year” award. Brehmer moved to Minnesota after six fruitful years. He joined KTCZ-FM as program director, but returned to Chicago’s WXRT after a year. However, on this occasion he took over as morning DJ from Terri Hemmert. Brehmer is well known for hosting the annual home opener broadcast of The Chicago Cubs on WXRT for the past 20 years. He was the first non-Cleveland DJ to broadcast live from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame radio studio in September 1995.

In 2009, the 67-year-old sent an email to his followers urging them to take political action by lobbying Congress for music royalties using his identity. He subsequently stated on social media that he did not compose or endorse the email. The legendary line “It’s fantastic to be alive”, borrowed from Frank Zappa and The Mothers’ 1972 album, Just Another Band from LA, was loved by the crowd.

The radio jockey bills itself as “your closest friend in the whole world” and is on air from 10am to 2.30pm, Monday to Friday. Brehmer compiled and broadcast articles like Lin’s Bin in 2002 in response to letters and emails from listeners. Every year, he writes about a hundred pieces, which he then records with producer Peter Crozier. His current wife is Sara Farr.
