Lina Mukherjee has loved Bollywood movies since she was 12, and when Shah Rukh Khan visited Jakarta in 2012, she sold her phone to attend Khan’s concert. There she met Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji and decided to visit India to meet other Bollywood celebrities.

Jailed for blasphemy
In 2023, while traveling in Bali, she posted a video on social media in which she recited a Muslim prayer ending with the word Bismillah and ate pork (pork is prohibited in Islam) after the prayer. She was criticized by some after the video went viral.
The Indonesian Ulema Council called her actions blasphemous and subsequently filed a police complaint against her. On September 19, 2023, Roni Sianatra, chairman of the panel of judges of the Palembang District Court in Sumatra, sentenced Lina to 2 years in prison and fined 250 million Indonesian rupiah (approximately US$16,245). She was convicted under Law No. 11 of 2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions and Article 45 (2) of Law No. 19 of 2016. She was seen crying several times during the hearing and said she was sorry for her actions and said she did not expect such a severe punishment.
