Lindsey Shaw Looks Back on Her 'Toxic' Friendships: 'Becomes Codependence'

Lindsey Shaw has opened up about how her past struggles affected her friendships, saying she sought out people who were “manic exhausts” for her.

During a discussion about friendships in a recent episode Ned’s Declassified Podcast, which he hosts with his ex Ned is declassified actors Devon Werkheiser and Daniel Curtis Lee, Shaw said, “I’m one of those people who — I always have these really intense one-on-one connections with people. I never had a big group of friends.”

Shaw, 35, continued, saying that friendships are “really hard… when you become the be-all, end-all — your friendship just becomes a co-dependency. It just becomes, like, kind of an answer to that bell in your head about addiction.”

She said that “I had no idea who I was. I had no idea what I liked. All I knew was, like, ‘I don’t like being here alone. Like, let’s go smoke something.’ You know what I mean?’ ”

The Sweet little liars alum has been open about her issues with the supplement in the past, sharing that she’s been on psychiatric hold twice and overdosed.

“I was taking Adderall all day, drinking tequila from the bottle. I spilled my Xanax prescription into my hand, plus a few extra pills that I combined bottles for, and I was alone [poured them all in my mouth]”, she shared.

She related her past additions to her friendship struggles in the podcast, saying, “I was blind because I was in so much pain. I feel like I was just blind to what was going on. I was blind to, you know, how to get the help that I actually needed in life.”

She continued: “I didn’t know how to talk to my family. So, like, those friends were really just kind of manic exhaust valves.”

Calling them “very intense, very toxic, but very close,” Shaw said she has no regrets.

“For better or for worse, I will never forget them.”
