Conceived in 2008, the Aditya mission was repeatedly postponed due to lack of funding. Initial plans for the mission in fiscal year 2017 were for a modest, 400-kilogram satellite in low Earth orbit to be used as an experimental project with a budget of 3 million rupees to study the solar corona. However, the cost of a solar mission, less launch costs, is Rs. HRK 378.53 million. The budget includes all phases of research, development and testing, as well as the cutting-edge equipment and expertise needed to explore the solar corona.
