Litvinenko, who was granted British citizenship and worked for the British secret service, was investigating Spain’s links to the Russian mafia around the time of his death.

The former intelligence officer fled to Britain in 2000 and is a vocal critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin.
