ITV’s latest crime drama, Litvinenko, stars David Tennant in the lead role as former Russian spy, Alexander Litvinenko, and fans are praising the series for its interesting, if not so compelling, plot. is chills.
The film, which premiered on ITVX in 2022 but will be shown on weekends on ITV1 this week, tells the true story of the poisoning of Litvinenko, who died of polonium-210 poisoning in November 2006, caused one of the deadliest poisonings. investigations in the history of the Metropolitan Police.

While many have loved the film so far, some viewers have been divided over David Tennant’s Russian accent. One person summed it up on Twitter: “Look, I love David Tennant, what a great actor. But why was he cast as the Russian, terrible accent and all? So many actors in You could have played #Litvinenka: Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians… pro-Putin artists and people who could certainly have a good TV job.”

Another repeated this, writing in response: “I like it for many things, but I can’t watch this movie for more than five minutes. I didn’t buy it as a Russian even for a second. The movie I mean, don’t let a Russian immigrate and give someone a break in their career… That would be a kind of crime.”
However, others who watched the film at home had nothing but praise for the BAFTA-winning actor’s portrayal of the victim. “David Tenant with a Russian accent is great acting #Litvinenko #davidtenant,” said one viewer.

Another person wrote about A doctor is talented star, but I couldn’t help but joke about Michael Sheen’s recent comments about actors playing people of different nationalities: “So delighted at David Tennant’s outstanding performance in #Litvinenko on ITV I wonder if Michael Sheen thinks this role should have disappeared with a Russian actor, not his friend?” followed by a smiley emoji.
Another fan said: “Great script and acting. David Tennant and Mark Bonnar are especially great. The entire cast is tight and the cinematography and detail in the scene are top notch. Only quality, sexy and seductive. Thank you!”

Litvinenko, who was granted British citizenship and worked for the British secret service, was investigating Spain’s links to the Russian mafia around the time of his death.
The former intelligence officer fled to Britain in 2000 and is a vocal critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin.

While in the hospital, he was interviewed by DI Brent Hyatt and DS Chris Hoar and told them he believed he had been poisoned at the behest of Vladimir Putin. He died on November 23. It later turned out that Litvinenko had been poisoned with polonium-210.
Meanwhile, the ITV drama series focuses much of the story on “resolute officers of New Scotland Yard” who have worked to investigate who was behind the death of the former intelligence officer. The cast also includes Mark Bonnar, Daniel Ryan, Neil Maskell and Barry Sloane.
