For her part in the brutal murder of the basketball player, which stunned the country, the ex-wife of a former NBA great is currently serving time in prison.
One of a number of horrifying facts of Lorenzen Wright’s death is the discovery of his bullet-riddled body in a field. After Lorenzen’s decaying body was discovered in a field in 2010, Sherra Wright admitted her involvement in his death in 2019 and was given a 30-year prison term.
After being selected seventh overall in the 1996 NBA Draught, Lorenzen, a 34-year-old former pro basketball player, played for a total of 13 seasons. The father of six has had a career that has included stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
According to the Associated Press, his 2010 death was one of the most widely reported murder cases in Memphis history. The former NBA player vanished that evening, July 18, 2010. He had just left his ex-wife Sherra Wright’s Tennessee house, according to police, and the two had just been divorced for five months at the time.
Following Lorenzen’s disappearance, the Memphis Grizzlies and the city of Memphis both offered a $5,000 prize for any information regarding his whereabouts. Crime Stoppers contributed $1,000, and the State of Tennessee offered to pay up $10,000.
Ten days after he went missing, he was tragically found. His body was discovered in a decaying state in a barren field close to a golf course. According to law police, he had 11 gunshot wounds to his head, torso, and right forearm when he was discovered. The result was a seven-year inquiry.
