Friend: Woman Accused of Benadryl Poisoning Husband Was “Living a Double Life”
When his autopsy revealed that he had taken a lethal amount of Benadryl, the Idaho lady who claimed her husband had died after falling from his boat into a lake in 2018 was charged with murder. Friends and family tell PEOPLE that they believe she was leading a “double life.”
On February 13, 2018, while on a boat trip early in the morning to see the sunrise, Larry Isenberg, 68, vanished. Lori, his wife, said that he had plunged into the icy water while repairing the motor. She stated that she attempted to save him but fell over a space heater and suffered a head injury. She said she drove the boat around the lake looking for Larry for nearly an hour before dialing 911.
The examination of Larry’s body, however, revealed no signs of drowning. Instead, a fatal dose of Benadryl was discovered in his body.
The 66-year-old Lori Isenberg was taken into custody last month by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office on a murder charge.
Many people who knew the Isenbergs were taken aback by the charge.
“For all intents and purposes, Lori and Dad had an absolutely perfect marriage,” says Dean Isenberg, 39, Larry’s son from a previous marriage, in the newest edition of PEOPLE. “If you believe in soulmates, they were soulmates.”
“Larry trusted her completely, so we trusted her,” says Larry’s buddy Andrew Kern. But she was leading a parallel life that no one was aware of.”

The 66-year-old Lori Isenberg was taken into custody last month by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office on a murder charge.
According to a search warrant document, handwritten revisions were made to Larry’s will in the weeks before his death, granting Lori’s children 80 percent of his assets and leaving only 20 percent to his own children. In a Feb. 20 email to friends, Lori stated that she intended to sell the couple’s home as soon as possible, writing, “Larry and I agreed years ago that if anything happened to either of us, we would sell our utopia because it would never be the same without both of us here.”
