The Sun previously reported that Good Morning Britain would be extended by an extra 25 minutes, until 9.25am on Friday, to accommodate coverage of the UK general election results.

We can now confirm that Lorraine – which is usually hosted by Lorraine Kelly and airs at 9am – and This Morning will be axed.

Instead, Julie Etchingham will host a special show and host a political segment as the results from the ballot boxes come in.

Meanwhile, Ed Balls, 57, and Susanna Reid, 53, will take the helm of extended episodes of GMB.

We previously said the weekday show would play its part with “up-to-the-minute election news and insights.”

GMB – which normally shows a three-hour show – will be extended by an extra 25 minutes, until 9.25am.

An ITV spokesperson revealed the plans and said: “The studio will host the country’s best, brightest, most outspoken and most listened to political policy makers and commentators.

“These include leading political pundit pair Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s communications chief Gut Harri, Labor veteran Harriet Harman, former finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng and newly appointed Labor colleague Ayesha Hazarika.

“Everyone will join as guests as the show continues to cover the latest election news and insights until 9.25am.”

They added: “ITV will remain on air from 9.25am with Julie Etchingham reporting.

“Will Rishi Sunak stay at number 10 or will Keir Starmer come in for the first time? Who will move into the ministerial offices?

“Dramatic political questions are likely to be answered during the second day’s live coverage.”

We previously told how Ed will be working two shifts as the former shadow chancellor lends his reporting expertise.

During Thursday’s evening slot, he will be joined by his Political Currency podcast co-host and former Conservative Chancellor George Osborne, as well as former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Election 2024 Live: The Results broadcast on ITV1.

The program itself will be hosted by Tom Bradby, who is a familiar face to ITV viewers having participated in previous election nights in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak rolled the dice on the summer election, announcing on May 22.

Voters will go to the polls on Thursday, July 4.

Meanwhile, ITV’s daytime programming has recently been the subject of a major shake-up thanks to the ongoing Euro football tournament.
