Louis De Zoysa shot Matt Ratana (Sgt Matiu Ratana) in a custody center in September 2020. Matt Ratan was just months away from his retirement but he was hit in the chest and thigh by an antique gun that Louis De Zoysa smuggled into the center in Croydon, South London.

LOUIS DE ZOYSA PARENTS: According to BBC News, Louis was born in Croydon into a Christian parent of Sri Lankan and British descent. He grew up with his four siblings. He graduated from John Fisher secondary school in nearby Purley in 2015. He was bullied at school and his father used to beat him.

Louis has been a lover of weapons particularly guns from a young age. He was arrested for drug and ammunition possession which led to a heart-wrenching incident at the Croydon Custody Centre.
He shot Sgt Matt Ratana without warning. Matt was rushed to the hospital where he passed away. Louis De Zoysa was charged with the murder of Matt Ratana in June 2021.
Although he pleaded not guilty to the murder via video link from the hospital at Northampton Crown Court. He was charged with the murder of Sgt Matt Ratana on 23 June 2023 and he got a life sentence on 27 July 2023.
