Love Is Blind’s Izzy Deemed His New Girlfriend a ‘Keeper’ When She Served Dinner on Paper Plates (Exclusive)

Love is blindIzzy Zapata shares the moment he knew his new girlfriend was his perfect match.

After his failed trip down the aisle with Stacy Synder and their decision to split, the 31-year-old reality star revealed to PEOPLE one important lesson he learned along the way.

“The biggest thing I took from Stacy — she doesn’t use paper plates,” he joked, before going on to talk about the moment he knew his girlfriend was a great fit. “Now we have plates. In fact, she was cooking and she basically said, ‘Look, I’m going to serve us on paper plates.'”

“She served me on a paper plate, I said, ‘Yeah, honey, you’re a keeper,'” the sales employee joked about his new partner, whose identity he has yet to publicly reveal.

As fans may recognize, the reality star’s reference to paper plates was one of the points of contention between him and Stacy during their time in Season 5 Love is blind.

Although Izzy and Stacy’s journey down the aisle got off to a great start, things soon took a turn for the worse when Stacy arrived at his Houston apartment. She began criticizing the way he lived, including his “messy” apartment, drawer of random women’s things, and use of paper plates.

“I’ve never had red Solo cups or plastic dishes,” she told the cameras, later asking Izzy, “When we talked about each other’s cooking, would you give me plastic?”

When Izzy insisted she’d serve plastic dinnerware and asked if Stacy would mind, she insisted she’d “bring silverware” instead, adding, “I’d fucking judge you.”

Finally, on their wedding day, Stacy told Izzy at the altar, “I want you and I want to say yes. But I’d be doing you and myself a disservice now to say that ‘I do’ when I feel like there’s a lot [of] things we need – and most of all we need time.”

Although they appeared to be on good terms after Stacy said no at the altar, Izzy eventually processed his feelings and lashed out at his ex-fiancée in front of the cameras. At a special reunion on Sunday, the couple confirmed they tried to patch things up a week after the wedding, but ended up not speaking for a year.

Despite their tumultuous relationship, Izzy told PEOPLE that the pair are still on good terms today and have bonded amid the “discontent” they faced online during their time on the show.

“We talked every day,” he explained. “We always talk to each other, lift each other up, it goes back and forth. One day I’ll be really mad at everyone and she’ll come for me, and then vice versa. So a relationship is like your best friend.”

The reality star also admitted their friendship put their significant others in a “very awkward situation” given their history, but noted how his girlfriend “has been amazing” and understood their relationship.

“I know my girlfriend is very sure of that and knows that Stacy and I will be nothing more,” he continued. “If anything, I’m very grateful for my girlfriend. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be going through this. So she was actually so calm and relaxed. No reaction, so nonchalant. So it went pretty smoothly.”
