Love Is Blind’s Milton on What He Really Thought After Learning That Mega Bombshell in the Pods (Exclusive)

Love is blindMilton Johnson needed a moment to process after learning some big news in the pods.

Netflix dropped the first four episodes of season five on Friday. In the last episode of the series, viewers saw Lydia Velez Gonzalez, who Milton bonded with in the pods and later got engaged out of nowhere, revealing that she had previously dated fellow contestant, Uche Okoroha.

Milton was understandably shocked by the revelation and remained calm in the pods, which upset Lydia, who wanted more of a loud response from him. When Milton couldn’t provide it, the two decided to break away from the pods for a moment and go into their living quarters, before reuniting to discuss the bomb.

While viewers didn’t get to hear what Milton was thinking at the time, he’s now revealing to PEOPLE what was really going through his mind after learning the news.

“That’s usually what I do. I put my head down, go back into my shell for a second, and then I just think,” explains the 25-year-old petroleum engineer. “And I’m like, okay. I’m very logistical with the way I plan things. I thought about it and then I said, ‘Okay, what’s my heart telling me now?'”

“And it all came together and I said, ‘Oh, well, this is in front of me. We all have pasts, we all have exes.’ I didn’t mind,” he says. “It was like, yeah, okay, no problem. That’s interesting. Now what do we do next?”

While Milton wasn’t too shaken by the news, contestant Aaliyah Cosby couldn’t say the same.

After she chose Uche, 34, as her main relationship and overcame several challenges together – including a fight they had after she admitted to past infidelity in a relationship and he reacted explosively to the news – it seemed the two were ready to get engaged .

But just as Uche heads to the group to propose, it’s revealed that Aaliyah has left the experiment early, seemingly due to the history between Uche and Lydia, who has become her closest friend on the show. In particular, Aaliyah seemed uncomfortable with Lydia’s comment about Uche and details about the life of a lawyer/entrepreneur.

Speaking to PEOPLE about her decision to leave, Aaliyah, 29, says she “considered a lot of different things” before deciding to leave early.

“I was very analytical. When things started to change, I had to sort of remove my emotions when it came to certain aspects and points in my journey,” she explains. “My conversation with her, my conversation with him, when I had time to myself to just process, it was difficult.”

“But in the end I just felt I had to do what was best for me,” the intensive care nurse continues. “Marriage is such a big step. It’s very sacred and it’s something that I take very seriously and I just wanted to really enjoy that moment. I thought, ‘If I’m going to get engaged and get married once, because that’s my goal, I want to be happy and enjoy it and be at peace and I want my family and everyone to accept the situation, my person.’ All of that. So it’s just one of those things where I felt like I had to do what was best for me and really follow my gut.”

Fans saw nothing but Uche finding out from the producers that Aaliyah had left the experiment. The episode ended with him revealing the information to the other men, simply telling them, “She’s gone.”

But the upcoming episodes, which air next Friday, teased more of Uche and Aaliyah’s story. The two will have a heated phone conversation, including a moment where Uche admits he wanted to “spend the rest of his life” with Aaliyah, before meeting again to discuss the state of their relationship.

“We have a lot to talk about,” Uche points out to a physically tense Aaliyah.

As for the other Season 5 couples, two more engagements have taken place so far: Taylor Rue and Jared “JP” Pierce, and Izzy Zapata and Stacy Snyder.
