Love Is Blind’s Stacy on Izzy’s ‘Big Misconception’ — and Why His Wedding Rant ‘Surprised’ Her (Exclusive)

Warning: This post contains spoilers from the Netflix Season 5 finale Love is blind.

Stacy Snyder shares her perspective on the time she spent at Love is blindwhich ended with the broken engagement with Izzy Zapata.

Friday’s season 5 finale brought Stacy and Izzy’s love story to an end as the two made it to the altar but decided to go their separate ways. Although Izzy agreed to marry Stacy, she eventually turned him down, citing lack of time as their biggest problem.

Later, after the two seemingly made up and kissed at the altar, Izzy slammed Stacy to the producers after he had a moment to register his emotions.

“It’s like he’s always trying to find something wrong,” he said in a confessional interview. “It was like all the outside s— was coming at her and I was blocking it all out. Looks, money, drama. I just focused on her… The whole point of this [experiment] is, Does it matter? Does creditworthiness matter? Does the car I drive matter? Does it matter where I go to fucking dinner? None of that matters to me. This makes me wonder: ‘Why are you 33 years old and single?’ I’m 29 years old and I can give you everything that a fucking rich 45-year-old man you always strive for and always fail at can’t give you.”

Reacting to her ex-fiancé’s fierce backlash, Stacy, now 34, tells PEOPLE she was “so surprised” to hear Izzy’s words — but she doesn’t blame him entirely.

“We were probably up all night the last night or two before the wedding after that financial conversation where we both felt like things were falling apart. So we were both wrecks,” she reveals. “Talking, crying on the phone for hours, trying to talk, panic. ‘What should we do?’ And then we just agreed, ‘We’ve been a team this long. We’re going to go into this thing as a team and we’re going to finish as a team. We’re not going to throw each other under the bus … We’ve got nothing left.'”

She continues, “We were so emotionally drained that we both had to stand there together to get through this. And we did. So the switch that flipped from there to the very end, when we talked about it, he said it was his the last interview that put him in that position…. These are the questions: ‘Don’t you feel enough?’ ‘Why doesn’t she want you?’ All those things that no one wants to hear after they’re closest to breaking up.”

“Of course it will be emotional,” she admits. “Did I like what he said? No, but I know why he said it. He was hurt. I know him and I know he’s hurt. I don’t believe the things he said. I don’t think he believes the things he said. And I think that he was genuinely hurt.”

It was no surprise that Izzy, now 31, was heartbroken after the two had been through so much Love is blind. Earlier in their trip, the two faced challenges when Izzy was introduced to Stacy’s life in Houston. She began criticizing the way he lived, including his “messy” apartment, his “lost-and-found” drawer of random women’s things, and his use of paper plates.

Stacy was also extremely concerned about Izzy’s finances and bad credit—especially since the director of operations was used to a lavish lifestyle (as her dad said, “sometimes love wants to fly first class”).

On their wedding day, Stacy told Izzy before turning him down at the altar, “I want you and I want to say yes. But right now I’d be doing you and myself a disservice to say ‘I do’ when I feel like there are so many things we they need — and most of all we need time.”

Discussing her thinking further, Stacy tells PEOPLE, “I think we were both ready for marriage and I think we saw marriage differently… The difference between relationships and marriages is that you tie everything together. It’s serious. You need to know all, not so fun topics.”

“I think Izzy saw it in a much more romantic way when it’s like, ‘If you’re in love, say yes,’ and I want to feel that way too,” she continues. “But I know the number one reason for divorce is finances. I would so love to run away and do this whole fairy tale… but if you don’t look at money the same way, that’s also a problem.”

Emphasizing that they were “pressed for time and every little thing that comes up is not a big deal is big deal because you don’t have time to figure it out,” Stacy reiterates that she had to make the best decision for her.

“I don’t want a divorce,” she says. “I don’t want to go through that.”

It didn’t help that right before the wedding, Izzy and Stacy discussed Izzy’s bad credit score. Stacy fought the revelation, claiming that Izzy hadn’t been completely honest and had deliberately not brought it up earlier when he had the chance.

Despite those feelings, Stacy insists there was a lot more at play when that conversation happened — and that it wasn’t all her fault she said no at the altar.

“That played a big role, but it wasn’t just the credit that was new to me,” she explains. “He had a new job and couldn’t exactly explain the pay structure for it. He couldn’t give me a round number of how much he could expect to make, whether it was low or high. He didn’t get insurance or benefits with the job. All I hear and i see her [that] ‘I’m responsible for us if something bad happens.'”

She says, “I think in marriage you have to think ahead. If a tornado hits, what are we going to do with our house? What are you going to do with the kids if you have a child with a disability or special needs? These are all things you have to think about, and I I just felt like he was in the moment with it. And that’s the difference between how we saw marriage… So I felt very alone and scared because I know it’s all down to me, I’m fine alone but I’m not well enough to support two people.”

Stacy also clears up the “misconceptions” floating around about her – both from Izzy and the internet – that she wants a “sugar daddy.”

“I don’t want a man to support me, I never want a man to support me,” she says. “But I also don’t want to support a man. I want both of us to bring something to the table. That’s a big misconception with people saying, ‘She wants a sugar daddy or someone to support her.’ I said, ‘I never wanted that. And that’s the complete opposite of how I was raised,’ so let’s clear it up!”
