Lucky Daye Calls Collaborator Bruno Mars a 'Genius': 'Being Able to Work with Him Was Like a Dream'

Lucky Daye gives big credit to Bruno Mars for his songwriting skills. That’s why it was the honor of life when the couple finally started working together on the new album of the R&B singer.

Algorithm, Daye’s third studio LP, which was released June 28, features Mars, 38, on the slow funk-influenced track “That’s You.” While talking to Diversity about it recently, the “Roll Some Mo’” singer, 38, explained how the collaboration came full circle and also gave his Grammy-winning collaborator flowers for inspiring him.

“Bruno is a genius, first and foremost,” Daye said. “I always looked up to Bruna, from the song with BoB [‘Nothin’ on You’] since ancient times. I always appreciate the way he writes. He’s the reason I started studying Motown, the way Motown music was written. Because I know that these are all his bars and so on.”

Looking back on his time working on “That’s You,” the A table for two the artist shared, “For me, the possibility of working with him was like a dream because I always imagined it.”
