Luis Cevallos’ car accident
Despite being warned against driving irresponsibly, two young people on a first date were killed in a high-speed crash after a traffic stop turned tragic. The officer told the couple, Luis Fernando Cevallos, 24, and Alexis Rodriguez, 27, “I’m pulling you over for reckless driving, careless driving, speeding and running a light, okay?” He noted that they reached “at least 100” miles per hour during the incident. Rodriguez briefly recounted the events leading up to their suspicious drive after returning the papers. She informed the officer that they were on their first date and were going home.
It’s hardly appropriate to start a first date by nearly killing each other, he retorted. Cevallos received three cards from him which he claimed could have been much higher. Go home safely, he said. Unfortunately, the recently murdered couple seems to have ignored his advice. At 2:13 a.m., about 15 minutes later, their car collided with a tractor trailer. The crash, which cut off the top half of the car, claimed the lives of two people. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The officer, who was clearly terrified, can be heard screaming: “Hey, it’s the same kid, oh my God, oh my God,” before calling for the “crash team.”
Around 2:40 p.m., the Border Patrol spotted Saldana Roche’s car and began pursuing it near Pine Valley. The Border Patrol has a heavy presence in the rural, sparsely populated area, with a checkpoint on westbound I-8 and the agency’s Campo station nearby. Saldana Rocha was in hot pursuit after Border Patrol agents checked his license plate and attempted to pull him over for unspecified reasons. However, he refused to stop. An agent at the checkpoint used a spike strip, a tool designed to deflate the tires of a fleeing suspect’s car, but claimed he missed the Infiniti. Stay tuned for the latest news.
