Lupita Nyong’o Takes Walk with Her Mom Dorothy and a Friend Following Split from Selema Masekela

Lupita Nyong’o spends quality time with her mother.

On Monday, Nyong’o, 40, was seen walking with her mum Dorothy and an unidentified friend in Santa Monica, California, just four days after the Oscar winner went public with her recent split from ex-boyfriend Selema Masekela.

Nyong’o appeared to be all smiles during Monday’s outing, wearing a black pleated dress emblazoned with colorful flowers.

The Black panther The actress has remained in the public eye in recent days after announcing her breakup with Masekela on Instagram last Thursday. On Saturday, she appeared on the red carpet at the GO 2023 GO Gala alongside Dorothy, just after thanking her Instagram followers for their support amid the hiatus.

“Thank you for all the kindness I received when I shared my sad news,” she wrote on her Instagram Story on Saturday. “Words of encouragement mean more to me than I expected. They are a balm.”

Nyong’o added in the post that she feels comforted to have “a little corner of the internet for romantically broken hearts to gather.” She also said her followers “shared resources that helped [them] go through the pain” and shared a few quotes that she liked.

The Our the star was also seen hanging out with Joshua Jackson and other friends at a Janelle Monáe concert in Los Angeles last Wednesday, a day before Nyong’o announced her split from Masekela.

“At this time it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly distance myself from someone I can no longer trust,” Nyong’o wrote in her Instagram post announcing the breakup. “I’m in the season of heartbreak over a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by fraud.”

At the time, Nyong’o wrote that she made the rare decision to share the personal news “to keep it 💯, and hoping that knowing my experience might be helpful to someone else who is experiencing the grip of heartbreak and who is willing to try and escape from it hurts to miss the wisdom that comes from it.”

It is unclear exactly when Nyong’o and Masekela, a sports media host and musician, started dating. The couple publicly confirmed their relationship in an Instagram post in December 2022 that has since been deleted.

Nyong’o hasn’t appeared on the big screen since last year Black panther continuation Wakanda forever. She will next be seen in the upcoming Peaceful place spinoff Day one directed by Michael Sarnoski.
