Laird’s “I’ll Be Okay,” a song that proclaims truth in the face of uncertainty and talks to her own experiences with sadness and anxiety—mental health issues that are close to her heart—was inspired by a dark place. Along with putting her on the musical map, “I’ll Be Okay” helped her land a job with Provident Label Group, Essential Music Publishing, and CAA.

Laird was the seventh of ten children raised in a Christian home in East Texas, and while still a young girl, she and her family served as missionaries in Romania for two years. She remembers becoming a Christian at the age of four and creating her first song at the age of nine. Since then, she has used music as a creative outlet.

One epiphany Laird cites as she began her journey further into the true Gospel’s core is the truth of who God is and what it means for our own identity and security in Christ. When asked how she hopes audiences will regard her as a person of faith as well as an artist, Laird responds, “I’m just on the journey with them.” “I continue to be sanctified. I’m continuing daily gaining knowledge of the Gospel. We’re all in this together, I want people to think of me as someone who can empathise and cares.
