Some viewers of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade are feeling a little… deflated.
As scores of colorful rafts and balloons made their way through the streets of New York on Thursday morning, many onlookers took to social media to express their confusion as to why so many of the inflatables appeared to be out of air.
“Why so many balloons were blown this year,” X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote user @EmKingg on Thanksgiving morning.
One of the first balloons that seemed to have trouble blowing up was Snoopy, which X user @TanookiKuribo pointed out, writing, “Snoopy has trouble with his hat. Also flying kind of low?”

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Greg Heffley’s character is also seen floating along with one blown-out arm, while a new addition is a duck named Uncle Dan from the upcoming film Migration, had a blown wing.
When it came time for the Toys “R” Us float to have its moment in front of Macy’s on 34th Street, onlookers noticed that the inflatable Geoffrey the giraffe had a slightly limp neck.
“The #MacysParade is the funniest thing on TV all year. This poor deflated float!” Kelly Krammes wrote on X along with a video of an orange giraffe.

Another of the newest additions to the parade, Monkey D. Luffy from the manga series One piece, also had an inflation problem due to his straw hat. In one video split on X from earlier, the Monkey D. Luffy balloon can be seen on the parade route colliding with a tree, which seems to split the hat. By the time he reached 34th Street, the entire curb was flopped.

Over the years, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has suffered a series of balloon mishaps caused by weather, wide turns and street signs.
One of the more recent fiascos occurred in 2008 when Keith Haring’s balloon took a big turn and crashed into the broadcast booth where Al Roker, Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauer were broadcasting live, temporarily taking them off the air.
