Major bargain chain with 600 locations to close ALL stores and give staff a break on Boxing Day

Its locations will be closed to customers on Christmas Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day to give staff a well-deserved break.

A spokesman for Home Bargains said: “We know how hard all our colleagues have worked throughout the year.

“Since we are a family business, we recognize the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones.

“We therefore feel it is only right to support our valued store teams by giving them extended time off over the Christmas and New Year period.”

The retailer also said all of its stores will close early on Christmas Eve, closing at 5pm instead of the usual 8pm or 9pm.

Today’s announcement means Home Bargains has been closed on Boxing Day for the past four years.

It is the earliest it has confirmed it will close its branches on Boxing Day.

It is common practice for shops across the UK to close on Christmas Day, but not all retailers close on Christmas Day.

Home Bargains is the first chain to confirm Christmas opening hours this year.

Last year, scores of stores closed their doors to the public on Boxing Day to give staff time off.

DIY giants Wickes, Homebase and Screwfix closed their branches on December 26, joined by supermarkets M&S and Lidl.

Poundland, which currently has more than 850 stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland, also closed its branches on Christmas Day.

If you want to find out if your favorite retailer will be closing their stores on Boxing Day, it’s worth keeping an eye on social media.

Chains often post their holiday hours on X and Facebook.

You can also try using the retailer’s store locator, which should tell you the opening hours of your local branch.

Not only that, but there may also be a number where you can call the store and clarify any questions you have about opening hours.

The latest announcement by Home Bargains comes as it looks set to open hundreds more stores across the UK.

The bargain retailer said in April it was looking to add around 400 branches to its store as part of major expansion plans as it reported a 10% rise in sales to around £3.7bn in the year to June 2023.

Home Bargains was founded over 40 years ago in Liverpool and has grown to become one of the UK’s largest discount stores.

It currently operates more than 600 stores in the UK and employs more than 28,500 staff.

How to check the opening hours of your local Home Bargains store

Retailer opening hours often vary from branch to branch, so it’s worth checking before heading to your local store to avoid a wasted trip.

Home Bargains, like many other chains, has a store locator to find the opening times of your nearest location: https://storelocator.home.bargains/

All you have to do is enter your desired city or your zip code and your local store will appear.

Once you have done this, you can click on “store details” which will display the opening hours of that branch.

It should also talk about the store’s facilities, including whether there is on-site parking, a refrigerated or freezer section and a garden centre.
