Major update in search for Levi Davis as investigation is SUSPENDED one year after X-Factor star vanished without trace

The investigation into the whereabouts of missing X-Factor star Levi Davis has been called off, The Sun can reveal just days before the first anniversary of his disappearance.

The popular 24-year-old singer and rugby player was last seen leaving an Irish pub in Barcelona on October 29 after traveling alone to the city from Ibiza.

Officials in the Spanish city have confirmed that an inquest into the missing rugby player has been halted.

Judicial sources described the suspension as “temporary” and the police investigation remains open but inactive.

The bombshell decision to end an active judicial investigation is believed to have come after a police-led manhunt ended.

The judge then received a report from the Spanish Coast Guard detailing what had been done so far to find Levi.

Divers searched the waters of Barcelona harbor in May – but failed to turn up any clues.

Officers confirmed at the time that their leading theory was that Levi drowned after crew members spotted a man in the sea shouting for help – the same day he went missing.

A source said: “The legal proceedings being conducted by Barcelona’s Instructive Court Number Seven have been temporarily shelved.”

Another insider admitted that while the case is currently stalled in the courts, it could be reopened if new evidence comes to light.

“The suspension is a form of protection against the time limits that exist in cases like this where they eventually have to be closed forever,” they said.

“As things stand at the moment, the judicial inquiry may be reopened if relevant new information comes to light.”

The judicial suspension does not affect the Spanish police investigation, which remains open and ongoing – although it is currently considered inactive.

It comes just days before the anniversary of Levi’s disappearance as he was last seen leaving The Old Irish pub on October 29 last year.

The star’s disappearance has sparked several theories, from drowning to a “voluntary” disappearance amid a £100,000 debt to a Somali gang.

After spending two weeks in Ibiza with his friend, the rugby star left Ibiza by boat with just £35 in his pocket and without a change of clothes.

He arrived in Barcelona and was seen walking down Las Ramblas before his trail went cold.

Levi’s disappearance was not reported to the police at the time, and his passport was found near the cargo shipment at the port only a few days later.

The case was investigated by a group of officers at the Barcelona police station before being handed over to a specialized investigative unit in February.

A spokesman for the Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police, said: “Our investigation remains open.”

But police declined our interview requests and said they had no information to share about whether any active investigations had been launched.

Local sources said Levi’s family had been kept informed by British consular officials.

Levi’s mum Julie Davis revealed in April that Catalan police had told her they believed the crew had spotted a man in distress at sea as the cruise ship docked.

A lifebuoy was thrown to him, and the Barcelona Coast Guard mobilized its Helimer 203 helicopter and the Salvamar Mintaka vessel.

Officers initially insisted that the drowning was only “one line of inquiry” and that others had not been ruled out.

A distraught Julie criticized the delay in releasing information about the cruiser and called Spanish police “slow”.

Detectives told Levi’s family that they discovered his phone signal was last picked up in the early hours of October 30 by a telephone pole at the far end of the harbor closest to the sea entrance.

His mobile phone, which had not been used since his disappearance, was previously thought to have been last pinged near the city’s main Sants train station.

Levi played Premiership rugby union for Bath between 2017 and 2020, when he joined Ealing Trailfinders. A year later he signed for Worthing Raiders.

The rugby player turned reality star appeared on The X Factor: Celebrity 2019 with fellow rugby players Ben Foden and Thom Evans as part of the group Try Star.

In 2020, he appeared on the E4 dating series Celebs Go Virtual Dating and became the first rugby player to come out as bisexual.

At the time of his disappearance, Levi was holidaying in Europe after taking a break from rugby due to a knee injury.

Friend Richard Squire, who officially reported him missing to police in Barcelona after his family alerted West Midlands Police, described his decision to leave Ibiza as “sudden”.
