Mallory Beach, 19, died on February 24, 2019, when the boat carrying Paul Murdaugh, then 19, and five others capsized near Parris Island, South Carolina. Morgan Doughty, Miley Altman, Connor Cook, Anthony Cook and Paul Murdaugh also joined the cast. Injuries required treatment for four of the five survivors. After the crash, Paul Murdaugh’s blood alcohol level was 0.24, three times the legal limit. According to detectives, the group of friends had been drinking all night despite the fact that they were underage. Surveillance video showed Paul Murdaugh buying drinks at a convenience store and then consuming glasses later that evening, just before the fatal crash. Officers also found a container of alcohol from the boating accident.
According to some of those who survived, Paul Murdaugh was driving erratically before the accident. When the boat collided with the Archers Creek Viaduct around 2:20 A.M. When rescuers arrived, the four surviving passengers were taken to a local hospital. Anthony Cook chose to remain at the scene of the crime, as evidenced by his clearly distressed look in the security footage. According to the affidavit, hospital employees told detectives they saw Alex Murdaugh going from room to room, trying to communicate with other survivors.
