Mama June Shannon Fears Daughter Alana Will ‘Spread Her Wings and Damn Crash’ as She Makes Her College Decision

As Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson’s college decision threatens the family, mom June Shannon isn’t quite sure if her youngest will leave the nest.

In the episode from Friday Mama June: Family crisisAlana, 18, finally decided to go to Colorado and told her sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird that she had decided to pursue higher education.

While Lauryn, 24, was overjoyed to hear that Alana was “maturing and growing up and not depending on a man” for her future, the two feared how mom June, 44, would handle the news.

Alana, Lauryn and her husband Josh Efird headed across state lines to Alabama to help mom June and her husband Justin Stroud move their belongings back to Georgia.

“Are you going to tell mom, Alana?” Lauryn asked to which she replied, “For what? Like mom doesn’t make it seem like she really wants me to go to Colorado. I think she wants me to stay here. She finds every excuse in the book why Colorado isn’t a good idea.”

Lauryn theorized that Mama June may be feeling “a lot of guilt” about being away during their childhood and wants Alana to stay in Georgia so she can try to “right her wrongs.”

“But like the girl, it’s a little too late for that now,” she added.

At her residence in Alabama, mom June told Justin that she didn’t believe Alana would go to college. She claimed that her youngest had not found a place to live or registered for classes.

Alana’s college deadline is coming up very soon, she said on camera. “Do I think she’s ready for college? No. But me and Pumpkin fight all the time because she says ‘Let her spread her wings, let her spread her wings.’

“I don’t want her to spread her wings and bloody crash,” she added, before Justin made her promise not to “make a scene” about Alana’s college.

When the trio arrives, Alana has announced the news of her decision to go to university, much to the disappointment of mum June. The matriarch of the Shannon family tried to sway her judgment by reminding her of finding a new place to live and how high the rent could be in Colorado.

As Lauryn and mom June began to “fight,” Alana left the house and got into her car after pointing out that she broke the “happy” news.

“I’m just trying to stand up for Alana because at the end of the day, I’m like, I don’t know if mom is mad because she missed out on so much time with Alana and fucked up over the years and now Alana’s moving out,” Lauryn said in the confessional.

“Alana doesn’t have to stay in Georgia, there’s nothing but bad memories, drama and b—– surrounding mom 24/7. It would be nice for everyone to get a fresh slate,” she continued.

Mama June argued that Alana was not ready to live on her own and that she needed to figure out what she was going to do about the income and the rent. She shared her concern that Alana would spend money to finish college only to find herself regretting the experience.

“The world is a cruel place and it will chew you up and spit you out and don’t think about it,” Mama June told the cameras. “And there’s nothing that I won’t be able to do, Josh will be able to do, Pumpkin will be able to do to save Alana at the end of the day.”
