Mame Khan is a Rajasthani folk singer known for singing Rajasthani folk and Sufi music.

Mame Khan was born and brought up in a small town called Satto near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. He belongs to the Manganiyar community, which has been carrying on the singing tradition since 15 generations. He learned to sing by listening to his father and family members.

Profession

He began singing at a young age, performing with his tribe at weddings, births, or various ceremonies. He has sung with tribal members from more than 60 countries. Mame Khan’s first overseas performance was in New York’s Central Park. He got his first break with the song “Bawre” in the film “Luck By Chance (2009)”.

He also voiced the voice of “Aitbaar” in Nobody Killed Jessica (2011), “Chakora” From Mirzia (2016) and so on.

  • He was invited to sing at Ira Arun’s wedding. It was there that he was discovered by music composer Shankar Mahadevan, who gave him his first breakthrough song “Bawre” in the film “Luck” (2009).
  • He is originally a Dholak player.
  • In 1999, he left Dholak behind in Belgium while he was on a world tour. When they returned to India, he was unable to perform for a whole week. It was then that his father suggested that he learn to sing.
