Man, 34, ‘stabbed Ian Wright’s boxing trainer pal to death after shouting “I will ju jitsu the f*** out of you” in club’

A MAN ‘stabbed boxing trainer Ian Wright’s friend to death after shouting ‘I’m going to fuck you’ in a nightclub’, a court was told.

Ross Hamilton, 34, allegedly stabbed Reece Newcombe, 31, in the neck with a piece of broken glass outside Viva nightclub in Richmond on November 26, 2022.

The court heard how the accused boasted about his karate moves on the dance floor and egged on Mr Newcombe, a new father, just moments before his death.

Hamilton denies murder, assault by beating and possession of an offensive weapon.

Both had watched the England v USA World Cup match in Qatar earlier that evening.

A jury heard how football fan Hamilton elbowed a man in the face and knocked him to the floor in the fan zone at Richmond Park.

Witnesses later reported him performing karate kicks on the dance floor at Viva and yelling that he was going to “ju jitsu the **k” at fellow patrons.

Meanwhile, father-of-one Mr Newcombe spent the evening with friends to watch the football, before heading to an official after party at a nightclub.

He helped train former England star Ian Wright, 59, and other celebrities for a charity boxing match in 2014.

He also trained actor Jack O’Connell, who starred in the drama SAS: Rogue Heroes.

Prosecutor Louis Malby, KC, told the Old Bailey: “The evidence shows that he is a bald man [Hamilton] caused trouble throughout the night in various ways in various locations, including inside the nightclub.

“He went from the fan zone to the night club and as he left the fan zone he became more and more aggressive, attacked citizens and women, stood in front of a truck and threw beer over a passing car.

“During the course of the evening he was involved in a number of low-level altercations with other individuals inside, challenging people and acting strangely, doing karate kicks on the dance floor, harassing people – sometimes putting his arm around people, sometimes being aggressive.

“Then at the end of the night, when the nightclub closed and everyone went out, instead of going home, he hung around outside behaving aggressively and erratically.

“At 3.20am he approached another man much smaller than himself, engaged in conversation with him and then without any warning elbowed him in the face as hard as he could causing the man to fall to the floor.

“After elbowing the man on the floor, he started dancing around the street, clashing with security staff and screaming at people ‘I’m going to fuck you ju jitsu’.”

The prosecutor told the court Hamilton was “looking for people to fight”.

“He continued to hang around outside the nightclub and goad people into fighting him,” he added.

The court was also told how just before 4am Mr Newcombe made the “tragic” decision to “confront” Hamilton after he was attacked.

“Exactly what the bald guy hoped would happen happened – he got the fight he was looking for,” the prosecutor continued.

Mr Malby added that Hamilton “armed himself with a piece of broken glass” and hid it in his pocket.

This was allegedly seen by a witness at the scene.

He told the court: “And when the time came he took a glass from his pocket and in the struggle with Reece stabbed him in the neck causing the fatal wound.

“Immediately he began to appear to be seriously wounded, and he seized himself by the neck and grabbed, and his friends rushed up, and it became a general melee in the side street.”

Hamilton was pushed away and driven to flee the scene, jurors were told.

Two police officers attended and found a large crowd outside Nando’s near Richmond Bridge.

Mr Malby said: “At the bottom of the stairs they saw a man lying on the ground covered in blood and members of the public were around him on their knees trying to give first aid.

“It was clear he had a serious wound on the right side of his neck.”

Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery, but unfortunately he was pronounced dead at 10:15.

Hamilton turned himself into the police station a few days later and claimed self-defense.

Hamilton, of Wood Lane, Isleworth, west London, denies murder, assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

The trial resumes on Tuesday and will last three weeks.
