An Illinois man recently discovered hidden treasure behind a wall in his childhood home.
Tim King, owner of T.King Construction Services in Lombard, told PEOPLE he was helping his parents with a home renovation project when he found a Christmas gift with his name on it behind the bathroom wall.
“We removed the medicine cabinet before we fenced it off and I thought, ‘I’d better just look inside to make sure there’s nothing in there,’” King, 53, tells PEOPLE. “And then it was!”

King posted his experience on Instagram on Dec. 27 in a video that had received more than 35,000 likes by Jan. 4. In the clip, King led viewers to a spot behind a bathroom wall before pulling out a neatly wrapped, powder-covered present. “#Christmas miracle,” he captioned the post.
In the following video, King can be seen opening the gift to reveal its contents: a box containing a now-vintage Matchbox Thunder Jet model airplane.

Engineers found a 132-year-old message in a bottle hidden inside the lighthouse wall: ‘We trembled’
“My mom wasn’t awake yet, so we waited to open it in front of her,” he says, noting that his mother doesn’t remember ever buying a gift.
King explains that his parents used to hide presents in the attic, and the box probably fell into the crawl space without anyone noticing. He estimates that the toy would have been new around 1978, which would have made it about 6 years old at the time.
And what does King think of the belated revelation?
“So I have one sister, and my mom was always very picky about getting the same amount of presents,” he says, adding with a laugh, “so we used to joke that I was screwed with one present for 46 years.”
