Man Utd sign former Premier League star’s son and hand him No7 shirt as fans say ‘remember the name’

MANCHESTER UNITED have confirmed the signing of 14-year-old prospect Silva Mexes from Ipswich.

Silva, 14, confirmed his move from Old Trafford in a social media post as he posed with the number 7 shirt at the club’s Carrington training ground.

The starlet posted on her Instagram profile: “A very proud moment for me and my family to announce my signing for @manchesterunited.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped me on my journey so far. The work starts now #manchesterunited #signing #blessed.”

Mexes is the son of Premier League legend Robert Earnshaw.

His father posted a heartfelt message on social media.

Earnshaw said: “This is really really special. My amazing son Silva Mexes Tyler-Earnshaw who is known as Silva Mexes has signed for Manchester United’s academy.

“I’m so proud. He’s been working hard and it’s a blessing to see him find his passion and go on this journey. I love you son.

“I am your number one fan. I will support you in any way possible and I know you have qualities. Go be GREAT.”

Several Premier League heavyweights have scouted the teenager, but he has committed his future to Man Utd.

The teenager posed with the prestigious No7 jersey, synonymous with club legends such as Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.

It is currently worn by Mason Mount in the senior team.

Earnshaw, 43, enjoyed a playing career that spanned 17 years and spent time in the Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two and MLS.

He is the only player to have scored a hat-trick in Prem, all three divisions of the English Football League, the League Cup, the FA Cup and in an international match.

Earnshaw began his professional career at Cardiff before playing for West Brom, Norwich, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Blackpool, Toronto FC, Chicago Fire and Vancouver Whitecaps.

He retired in 2015 after a stint in MLS.

The forward also made 59 appearances for Wales.
