Manasa had been interested in modeling since her school and college days and decided to follow Priyanka Chopra’s footsteps after she won the Miss World title in 2000. In an interview, Manasa Varanasi said about Priyanka Chopra:
Of all the beauty queens, Priyanka Chopra stands out to me because she is an explorer—she has always chosen to push her boundaries and has made her mark in fields as diverse as music, film, entrepreneurship, social work, etc. Also, as a shy kid who always tried to make my voice heard, I have always admired Priyanka’s courage to speak out. I am so inspired by her versatility and strength.”
The journey to pageant wins began during her college days when she won the title of Miss Freshman.

After winning the Miss India Telangana 2019 title, she started preparing for the Miss India 2020 pageant and won the title in the grand finale on February 10, 2021. In this competition, Manika Sheokand from Haryana was declared Miss India 2020 and Manya Singh from Uttar Pradesh was crowned as the first runner-up of Miss India 2020. Bollywood actors Neha Dhupia, Chitrangada Singh, Pulkit Samrat and famous designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock were the judges of the Miss India 2020 pageant.
