Mandy Moore is ready to “really commit to enjoying the holiday season.”
This year, This is us star, 39, says she feels at home in her home and is eager to start new traditions with her husband Taylor Goldsmith and their two children: Augustus “Gus” Harrison, 2, and Oscar “Ozzie” Bennett, 14 months.
“We’re putting down roots and figuring out what new traditions will come for the holidays. It’s an exciting prospect. What are we going to do every year now that will feel special?” Moore tells PEOPLE.
Regardless of tradition Intricate actress and her family choose, their cats will be part of the celebration.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had a part of my life where I didn’t have cats,” says Moore, who currently has three cats: Fig, Olivia and Peanut.
Moore plans to give the three cats their own stockings full of holiday gifts.

“Everybody gets their own stocking, so everybody feels included, but they love nothing more than crumpled wrapping paper and boxes,” the singer-songwriter says of the holiday traditions she has for her pets. – Everyone will be happy on Christmas morning, that’s for sure.
The trio of cats also help Moore and Goldsmith keep the house in order after the holiday decorations are up by not destroying the family Christmas tree.
“I just have kids who want to go and take the decorations down, but the cats kind of leave the tree alone,” Moore says.
But even if the cats were involved in destroying the Christmas tree, Moore would still love them because she says, “Cats have changed my life.”
“Cats were my first pet, my first foray into any kind of understanding of responsibility,” she adds.

To celebrate the fantastic impact cats can have on someone’s life, Moore teamed up with Purina Cat Chow to celebrate the brand’s 60th anniversary. To mark the milestone, Purina Cat Chow created 60 years, 60 stories: Celebrating the extraordinary impact of catsa book full of heartwarming real-world cat stories submitted by cat owners.
“The best thing about the book is that all proceeds from the sale of the book go to Pet Partners, a non-profit organization that helps identify and train animal therapy teams, cat owners and their kittens to go out and help people who need that extra cuddle,” says Moore.

Purina Cat Chow will donate all proceeds from sales of the book to Pet Partners until December 31st and an additional $60,000 to the organization.
“It was really easy to want to be a part of this,” adds Moore, who wrote the book’s foreword. “It’s been a really fun, seamless partnership in that sense.”
