Mandy Moore Says Son Gus, 2, Is ‘Loving’ Being a Big Brother: ‘The Holidays Have New Meaning’ (Exclusive)

This year’s holiday season seems to be a special one for Mandy Moore.

On Thursday, This is us actress, 39, opened up exclusively to PEOPLE about Christmas as a mom of two in the Dr. death premiere of the second season in Los Angeles.

“He loves being a big brother and he loves the holidays,” she says of her 2-year-old son, August “Gus” Harrison.

“He is aware now [of Christmas] in a way that he wasn’t until this year, like last year, he’s just starting to understand Christmas trees, but now he understands the concept of Santa and it’s all much more exciting,” Moore says.

The star, who plays investigative journalist Benita Alexander in Dr. deathshe also talked about her 13-month-old son Oscar “Ozzie” Bennett’s milestones and her excitement for spending quality time with them over Christmas.

“He’s about to start walking,” she tells PEOPLE of Ozzie. “He just turned one. The holidays seem to take on a new meaning. I’m excited for these next few weeks just to be home and cozy and enjoy this time of year.”

The actress was at the opening in ‘Dr. Death Season 2 Red Carpet.

Moore began filming the second season of the true crime drama just six weeks after welcoming her second son, who was born in October 2022.

The Intricate star announced that she and husband Taylor Goldsmith welcomed Ozzie into the world with a sweet Instagram post.

“Ozzie’s here!” Moore wrote in a post that featured a carousel of black-and-white photos from the hospital.

“Oscar Bennett Goldsmith arrived a little late, but with a lot of smugness (and an easier/faster birth than his big brother, much to his parents’ delight),” she continued in the caption. “Every saying is true: our hearts have doubled in size and the immediacy of the love is astounding. It is indescribable and we are so grateful for our family of four! 💓💓💓💓.”

Meanwhile, in October, the singer shared with PEOPLE that she’s looking forward to creating new holiday traditions with her family now that her boys are older.

“I think we’re excited to figure out what those traditions are going to be,” she said. “Sincerely, [Ozzie] he was so small last year and we were here on the east coast, which was fun in itself, to have that new experience.’

“But we’re moving soon, so I’m excited to settle down and put down roots and figure out what those traditions will be,” she added.
