Corruption and abetment of suicide
When Mahoba was posted there as SP, there were several allegations of extortion from various businessmen, truck drivers and shop owners. On September 7, 2020, Indrakant Tripathi, a local gravel business owner, posted a video in which he stated that Manilal was pressuring him to pay extortion funds of Rs 600,000 per month. He also suspected he would be murdered if he disclosed such information. On September 8, 2020, Indrakant Tripathi was found unconscious in a car with a gunshot wound to the neck. Tripathi died during treatment on September 13, 2020, following which an FIR was registered against Manila and four other policemen under Sections 302 and 306 of the IPC. Mannar was suspended from service on September 9, 2020, and later absconded. The UP police later announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for his head. After evading arrest for more than two years, Manilal surrendered to court on October 15, 2022. He was lodged in Lucknow jail before being dismissed on June 24, 2023.
