At the age of 13, she accompanied her sister to the State Shooting Academy in Bhopal. During a visit to the academy, shotgun trials were going on and she decided to give it a try. Manisha accidentally hit the target and was impressed by her talent. The academy offered her the opportunity to shoot professionally and provided her with training and equipment. .

In 2015, Manisha made her debut at the ISSF junior competition in Lonato, Italy, but she did not win any medals in Italy. In 2017, Manisha started competing in the senior category despite being a junior and won medals in both the junior and senior categories in Jaipur. In 2018, her career took a leap when she won a silver medal in the youth shotgun event at the ISSF World Shooting Championships in South Korea.

Manisha said the turning point in her career came when she became the first Indian woman to win a silver medal in the junior shotgun event at the ISSF World Shooting Championships 2018 in South Korea. She finished with 41 points, tying the women’s trap junior record. According to her, her best result was the best result she achieved at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup, while finishing seventh in the Women’s Skeet Competition in Cairo, Egypt; in the final round, her result put her in A three-way tiebreaker for the last two finals spots. In 2021, she participated in the first Asian Online Shooting Championship and won a medal. She also set her best finish at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup leg, finishing seventh in the women’s clay pigeon event, scoring 23 of 25 points in each of the first four rounds. She is ranked 37th in the world.

- In an interview, speaking about her struggles of coming from a poor family and playing a sport where people are considered royalty or rich, she said,
I come from a humble family in Bhopal. My father is a little fisherman. Growing up, I understood the importance of money and often helped my father fish. I have six brothers and sisters, and my father barely makes enough money to cover all our expenses. Although life was not easy at that time, I always had this innate motivation to do something in life. The turning point came when my sister and I visited the National Shooting Academy. Our visit to the college coincided with the college’s shotgun trials. Since I started competing, I have tried my best to improve myself in every competition I participate in. “
- Recalling the sudden shooting incident at Madhya Pradesh College during an interview, she said:
I remember, I was standing there watching the trials when Olympian Mansheer Singh approached me and asked me to give the sport a try. Not to mention the need for shooting training before, I don’t even know the skills of holding a gun. However, when I tried the sport, something inside me clicked and I hit the target with ease. Impressed with my batting, the authorities asked me to take up the sport seriously and provided me with training. That moment changed everything for me and the rest is history. Since my first shot, I’ve been training extensively and playing with all the dedication I can muster. Thanks to the generosity of the state for providing me with the equipment I need to learn and improve in the sport. I stayed at the academy just to not have any distractions. “
