In 2006, Manjit was an elementary school teacher at North Ridge Elementary School. On October 18, 2006, Manjit Panghali disappeared after attending a prenatal yoga class in Surrey. Twenty-six hours after she disappeared, her husband, Mukhtiar Panghali, reported her disappearance to Canadian police. Five days later, on October 23, Manjit Pangali’s burned body was found on the Delta Harbor Causeway in South Delta, British Columbia, Canada.

Mukhtiar Panghali arrested
Five days after she went missing, Manjit Panghali was found in a locked vehicle with a siren and her charred body on a Delta beach. On March 12, 2007, Canadian police detained Manjit Panghali’s husband, Mukhtiar Panghali, the main suspect in Manjit’s murder. During the police investigation, Mukhtiar was captured on surveillance video buying a lighter and a newspaper on the night his wife, Manjit Panjali, disappeared. Police said Mukhtiar Panghali first took Manjit Panghali from a prenatal yoga class to his home where he strangled her to death. He then moved her body to the Delta Harbor Causeway in South Delta where she burned it.

The verdict of Mukhtiar Panghali
Mukhtiar Panghali was convicted in November 2010 of murdering Manjit Panghali. He was charged with second-degree murder. In addition, he was convicted of interfering with human remains. In February 2011, he was sentenced by the Supreme Court of British Columbia to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 15 years. Shortly after the verdict, Crown prosecutor Dennis Murray recounted the killing:
The teacher who murdered his wife after she came home from a prenatal yoga class staged the discovery of her car in Whalley and burned her body on a remote beach along the Delta Harbor Causeway in South Delta, Then file a missing persons complaint with the Surrey RCMP as long as possible. “
The primary target behind the murder remains unknown, according to British Columbia Supreme Court criminal lawyer Dennis Murray in a March 2011 media statement.
Excerpts from Manjit Panjali’s diary and letters
Canadian police disclosed the diary and letters written by Manjit Panghali to the media in December 2010. Letters and diaries reveal that Manjit suffered from depression due to his married life and struggled to maintain his relationship with Mukhtiar Panghali. According to Manjit Panghali’s family, Manjit suffered from depression and anxiety shortly after the couple’s daughter was born. Manjit wrote in her diary:
I write this today because I thought I would never let myself get to this point. I suffer from clinical depression and am on medication. I’m scared. My husband was not giving me the support I needed. “
In her book, Manjit recounts that she relied on alcohol and drugs to stay high. she wrote,
I felt shattered, broken, broken. I wanted to drink, do drugs—do something that would cheer me up. “
Manjit Panghali wrote about her married life in one of her diaries. she wrote,
We need to do some work on our marriage. We need to plan so that our relationship doesn’t fall apart. We need to do some work on this relationship. I need to stay in touch with him. Make him love me again. “
She further explained her husband Mukhtiar Panghali’s drinking problem. she wrote,
I feel helpless. I hate life. Living in two cultures is very difficult. He made me feel so helpless, so hopeless, so scared. I once had no doubts about our life together, my role in your life and our future, but now I am absolutely terrified about our future. “
Manjit Panghali mentioned several marital issues in a letter to Mukhtiar Panghali. she wrote,
We have struggled with many issues – sex, drugs, alcohol, coworkers, family, our ability to communicate, to be affectionate, to love again. I don’t know if you like our relationship. “
Manjit mentioned in her diary that she did not want a second child. she wrote,
I definitely don’t want to bring another child into this chaos.Chaos can [simply] I don’t know how to cope if you drink. We are disappointed that you are not around. You will become upset and mean. “
According to Manjit Panghali, she celebrated her 31st birthday on July 4, 2006, with her husband. On August 18, 2006, she wrote in her diary that Mukhtiar was delighted with the news of her second pregnancy. she wrote,
The MP confirmed I was pregnant and gave me a lovely card on our anniversary.he was very excited and [sic] Treat me like a princess. I couldn’t stop crying because I was so excited. “

Mukhtiar Panghali was allowed to leave prison unescorted in October 2021 in order to meet his family and try to reintegrate into society. However, he was not allowed to meet the family members of his daughter Maya and Manjit Panjali.
