News about Marcus Sasser
The No. 1 Houston Cougars didn’t play their best on Thursday night, though, managing to defeat Northern Kentucky 16-1.
Despite having 17 turnovers and missing senior standout Marcus Sasser, who started the game with a nagging groin injury, the Coogs were able to win 63-52. Before being benched with signs of discomfort in a tense March Madness opener, Sasser played the first 18 minutes. He re-aggravated his groin injury and the team confirmed that his comeback is questionable.
Marcus Sasser confirms that he has re-aggravated his groin injury, saying the pain was “around a 7”. He says it’s up to him and how much pain he can take when it comes to Saturday’s game. PS: The game on Saturday will be played at 18:10. @abc13houston #March Madness pic.twitter.com/ULEyzpZH1f

After the game, Sasser acknowledged the injury, describing the discomfort as “about a 7”. She went on to say that it will be up to him to decide how much discomfort he can handle while competing in the next game. The first-team All-America selection was made closer to the start of first-round play in Birmingham, Alabama. When he left just before halftime, Houston led 30-27 and had two rebounds and five points.
Jarace Walker and Jamal Shead each had 16 and 13 points to lead four Cougars in scoring. In Sasser’s place, freshman Emanuel Sharp gave the Coogs a boost with 10 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Coogs.
Eight of ESPN’s 42 college basketball analysts picked the Coogs (31-3) to advance to the Final Four in Houston, and 14 of them believe they can win on April 3.
On Saturday at 6:10 pm, Houston will face the No. 9 Auburn Tigers, who are actually playing at home.
