Margaret Cho gets candid about her sobriety journey.

The comedian, 54, opened the latest episode The Osbournes podcast about reaching a new milestone in her latest round of sobriety after decades of struggling to get her substance use under control.

“About 7 years this time, which is great, but I’ve been here since 1996,” Cho told Sharon, Kelly and Jack Osbourne. “I hope he stays this time.”

“I hope so,” she added. “I spent a lot of time on it this time.”

Cho has been open about her experience with the Osbournes – several of whom have struggled with their own sobriety – saying it’s a constant challenge to make it last.

“I didn’t really get it last time, but it’s also an ever-evolving project, you know, your mental health and well-being,” she explained. “It’s a permanent work of art that you have to deal with all the time.”

Cho explained that she took drugs “to be social”.

“I want to not do it with anyone around, but if I had to be social, I would do it just for the sake of it,” she said.

“Should I trust you?” Sharon asked, to which the comedian agreed.

However, she admitted that the medication led to even bigger problems: she would get angry at other people.

“Yeah, totally busted, but it’s more internal so I’m not really sure,” Cho said. “I was happy to grab a couple … because opioids would make me mad.”

“I don’t feel alone at all. I feel like my life is really fulfilled,” she said at the time. “I have people that are in my life that I see in a romantic relationship. That’s very important, but at the same time, it’s not directed toward marriage. It’s not directed toward a partnership.”

“For me, it’s really grown up and really appropriate for what I want to do with my life now. I’ve never felt so fulfilled, and that’s because I have to live alone. I just never allowed myself to because I was always in fear of [living alone]. As women, we are socially conditioned to want to find ‘the one’. I realized that it’s just better to be alone.
