The video was made by Trump’s adviser Margo Martin at his Bedminster golf estate in July 2021 when the former president met with individuals assisting his former chief of staff Mark Meadows in writing a book. Martin often recorded talks with authors to make sure their accounts of his comments were correct.
The sources claimed that for several minutes of the audio tape, Trump discusses how he is unable to discuss the document because he is no longer in office and does not have the broad authority to declassify it, but implies that he should have done so when he was still the president.
Trump may be in danger now that it has been revealed that he should have declassified the paper since it shows he was aware of the restrictions on revealing sensitive national security information and that he had kept it. Earlier, CNN stated that the recording was in the hands of the prosecution.
Trump’s attorneys believe a document classified at the “Secret” level that mentioned military action against Iran had been returned to the National Archives months later, according to a person briefed on the situation. Despite the fact that the study was actually written earlier in the Trump administration, when Joseph Dunford was chairman of the joint chiefs, a person familiar with the paper claimed that Trump thought the memo explaining the report to attack Iran would refute Milley’s stated allegations.
