Mariah Carey reflects on her twins Monroe and Moroccan, 13, who work in the entertainment industry.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the R&B icon, 55, discussed whether she would be open to them pursuing careers in the field.
“I think they’re both very talented and smart, and if they want to continue to live as entertainers, then I think they should,” Carey says of her two children, who she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon and who performed at her Christmas shows.
She adds: “It’s a tough life, but they seem to really enjoy performing, so I’m happy for them.”

On Wednesday, Dec. 25, Carey took to Instagram to share a series of sweet photos with Monroe and Moroccan as they celebrated Christmas.
A family of three smiled together with Santa Claus in front of a lighted Christmas tree.
While Carey’s two children opted for tracksuits and pajamas during the celebration, the “All I Want for Christmas Is You” hitmaker wore a red velvet dress and a white fur coat.
“Merry Christmas!!! ❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄,” she captioned her post.

On Tuesday, December 10, Carey shared a video on Instagram of Monroe and Moroccan giving her a large bouquet of flowers during her concert in Raleigh, North Carolina on Monday, December 9.
The twins appeared in front of a crowd of concertgoers after a man took to the stage and said: “I don’t want to interrupt you, but I just want to let you know that we’re going to give her flowers tonight because we just found out that ‘All I Want for Christmas’ is the number 1 on Billboard Hot 100. Make noise for the Queen of Christmas.”

Carey also recently revealed to PEOPLE that she has no plans to stop performing Christmas shows anytime soon — but she might be making some changes.
“It’s probably something I’ll always do. I just have to schedule it a little differently because I got sick this year just because I was out too long,” she said after canceling three recent shows while recovering from the flu.
Carey also said she hasn’t “suffered” from Christmas music yet.
“I’m in Aspen and right now ‘Oh Santa’ is playing over the speakers and I’m like, ‘I guess I’m not sick of it,'” she said.
