Martha Karagianni, the famous Greek actress, died on September 18 at the age of 82. According to the Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, her death marked the end of the golden age of electricity. Greek photo.

Karagianni’s cause of death is still unclear and details of her burial will be announced soon.

Martha Karagianni’s career in the entertainment industry
Martha Karagianni was born on November 6, 1939 in Keratsini. She studied dance and began performing on the Lyric Stage. When she was 8 years old, she performed in a children’s ballet by Loukie Sakellaropoulou. She began her film career at the age of 17, in 1956. Orestis Laskos directed her debut film The Unknown. In 1957, she made her stage debut in Elephants and Fleas, when she met Giannis Dalianidis. Napoleon Eleftheriou encouraged her to appear in the rendition after seeing her in Se la pen.
Martha made her television debut in Kostas Pretenderis’ series O Dromos. During her career, she performed in many musicals and comedies. She mainly worked with Dalianidis, and their first film together was Ziteitai Pseftis, which was released in 1961. She then appeared in Merikoi in the Greek musical Protimoun Krio. Karagianni went on to act in many musicals, including Kati kai na kaiei, Koritsia gia filima, Mia Kyria sta Bouzoukia, Oi thalassies oi handres and others. She first sang for the film Kapetanios Gia Klamata, for the song San Fisa to Maistrali. She went on to perform songs for films such as Gorgones Kai Magkes, Mia Treli and Treli Zontohira.
She then signed with a film studio and starred in Giorgos Konstantinou’s 1965 film 5000 Lies. In 1969, she starred in Kathe Ximeroma’s Pethaino, followed by I Oraia tou Kourea, in which she played a witty character.
Her collaborations with Dalianidis and Kostas Voutsas expanded with To Anthropaki in 1969, followed by O Magkas me to Trikiklo. Martha is back with Giorgos Lazaridis O Podogyros. Pethaino gia Sena and Apo Erota, her latest films, were released in 2009 and 2014 respectively.
She was a member of the groups Georgia Vasileiadou and Vasilis Avlonitis and had a good career in theatre. She appeared in plays with such celebrities as Nikos Stavridis, Nikos Rizos, Giannis Gionakis, Sperantza Vrana, Giannis Fermis, Sotiris Moustakas, Marika Nezer and others. Martha Karagianni is survived by unidentified family members. She is married to Dimitrios Stefanakos, a Greek footballer who passed away last December.
